About the Course

This comprehensive text on family therapy begins by examining various ways that families develop and identifies the characteristics of both healthy and dysfunctional families. A chapter is dedicated to each major theoretical approach, including solution-focused, Bowen, experimental, psychoanalytic, behavioral and cognitive-behavioral, structural, strategic, systemic, and narrative. Emphasized are the major theorists for each approach, premises, techniques, process/outcome, and unique aspects of the theory. Case illustrations are also included. The author also includes chapters that cover the single parent, the remarried family, and the culturally diverse family. the book closes with a discussion of the ethical, legal, and professional issues for today’s family therapist, along with current trends.
