This study examines the impact of parental substance use and family dynamics on adult substance use patterns among rural populations. Using longitudinal data from stimulant users aged 18 to 61, the researchers explored how maternal and paternal histories of drug and alcohol use, parental mental health, and parent-offspring conflict influence the trajectory of substance use over time. The findings highlight the importance of intergenerational influences on substance use and suggest that family-based interventions could play a crucial role in treatment and prevention efforts.
This course is based on the reading-based online article, Predicting Substance Use Patterns Among Rural Adults created by Jessie J. Wong et al in 2019.
