About the Course

Working with Adolescents: A Guide for Practitioners (Part 2: Ch 5-10) is an intermediate-to-advanced-level course designed for counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and social workers seeking to deepen their expertise. Participants will explore ecological theory and its application to adolescent development, gaining practical strategies for addressing the complex challenges young people face in their family, school, and social environments.

The course provides up-to-date research and clinical insights into sexual orientation, gender identity, and nonbinary identity development, equipping practitioners with tools for affirming and inclusive care. With a strong emphasis on cultural responsiveness, it integrates gender-neutral language and evidence-based approaches to foster a supportive and adaptable therapeutic space. By bridging theory with clinical practice, this course empowers professionals to holistically support adolescents across diverse settings.

This course is based on the book, Working With Adolescents: A Guide for Practitioners: Ch 5-10 created by Julie Anne Laser et al in 2021.
