About the Course

This study investigates the impact of stressful life events experienced during incarceration on the well-being of justice-involved individuals, with a particular focus on depression, hopelessness, loneliness, and suicidality. Drawing from a sample of 160 incarcerated men and women, the research highlights the types and prevalence of stressors faced during incarceration, examines gender differences, and explores how perceived social support moderates the relationship between these stressors and mental health outcomes. Findings underscore the importance of addressing both individual and systemic factors within correctional settings to mitigate the adverse effects of stress and enhance well-being.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Stressful Life Events Among Incarcerated Women and Men created by Kelly E. Moore et al in 2021.
