Randomized Controlled Trial of Harm Reduction Treatment for Alcohol (HaRT-A) for People Experiencing Homelessness and Alcohol Use Disorder

About the Course

The article presents the findings of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) that tested the efficacy of harm reduction treatment for alcohol (HaRT-A) among people experiencing homelessness and alcohol use disorder (AUD). The study compared the outcomes of participants receiving HaRT-A to a control group receiving services as usual over a three-month period. The results demonstrated that HaRT-A participants showed significant reductions in peak alcohol use, alcohol-related harm, AUD symptoms, and positive alcohol tests, although there were no significant improvements in quality of life (QoL).

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Randomized Controlled Trial of Harm Reduction Treatment for Alcohol (HaRT-A) for People Experiencing Homelessness and Alcohol Use Disorder created by Dr. Susan E. Collins et al in 2019.
