Risky Drinking in Adolescents and Emerging Adults

Differences Among Individuals Using Alcohol Only versus Polysubstance Use

About the Course

The article investigates how various factors such as motives, protective behavioral strategies, and mental health symptoms differ among youth engaged in risky drinking. This study compares individuals who consume only alcohol to those who use alcohol in combination with other substances, examining associated patterns of drinking, alcohol-related consequences, and challenges with emotion regulation. The findings suggest that polysubstance users exhibit greater drinking motives, higher mental health symptoms, and more alcohol-related consequences, underscoring the need for tailored interventions.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Risky Drinking in Adolescents and Emerging Adults created by Autumn Rae Florimbio et al in 2023.
