Using Drama Therapy to Enhance Maternal Insightfulness and Reduce Children's Behavior Problems

About the Course

This study explores the effectiveness of a 10-week drama therapy group intervention designed to enhance maternal insightfulness and reduce behavioral problems in children-at-risk. Conducted with mothers referred by community welfare centers, the intervention utilized creative and experiential methods to help participants develop a deeper understanding of their children’s thoughts, feelings, and motivations. The study found significant improvements in maternal insightfulness and reductions in externalized and general behavioral issues in children, with the most substantial changes observed six months after the intervention. These findings highlight the potential of drama therapy as an evidence-based approach for strengthening parent-child relationships and improving child outcomes.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Using Drama Therapy to Enhance Maternal Insightfulness and Reduce Children’s Behavior Problems created by Rinat Feniger-Schaal, PhD et al in 2021.
