About the Course

This course explores how to incorporate cultural competence into a comprehensive prevention plan at all levels of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). It emphasizes a public health approach and highlights CADCA’s guidance on building culturally competent coalitions. Topics include understanding culture and diversity within communities, building partnerships for prevention, enhancing coalition capacity, recruiting diverse community members, and sustaining cultural competence throughout the SPF process. Practical tools such as cultural competence checklists and action steps provide coalitions with strategies to promote inclusion and effectiveness in substance use prevention.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Incorporating Cultural Competence Into Your Comprehensive Plan created by CADCA in 2018.
