This article explores how gambling-related cognitions motivate individuals to gamble despite persistent losses. Research was conducted to measure the relationship between cognitive biases and chasing behavior. For the first time, this study investigates the dynamics between chasing behavior, gambling-related cognitive distortions, and temporal perspectives. Using common gambling measuring tools, such as SOGS, GRCS, and CFC-14, the study analyzes data collected to correlate the impact of present orientation on chasing behaviors. Understanding how cognitive distortions affect problem or habitual gamblers gives more clarity on potential interventions based on different subtypes of gamblers.
This course is based on the reading-based online article, Positive Illusions: The Role of Cognitive Distortions Related to Gambling and Temporal Perspective in Chasing Behavior created by Giovanna Nigro, PhD et al in 2021.
