HIV Prevention Intervention for Substance Users:

A Review of the Literature

About the Course

This article reviews various HIV prevention interventions aimed at substance users, highlighting the effectiveness of strategies such as harm reduction, behavioral interventions, and biomedical approaches. The review emphasizes the importance of tailored, multifaceted approaches that address both individual risk behaviors and broader social determinants. Key interventions discussed include needle exchange programs, antiretroviral therapy (ART), and counseling, all of which play a critical role in reducing HIV transmission among substance users. The study advocates for a combination of public health efforts and individualized support to effectively tackle HIV in this vulnerable population.
