STAT: Schema Therapy for Addiction Treatment a Proposal for the Integrative Treatment of Addictive Disorders

About the Course

The article explores an integrative approach to treating addiction by using Schema Therapy (ST). The article proposes that addictive disorders are best addressed by treating them alongside comorbid conditions such as personality disorders and trauma histories. The author argues that Schema Therapy, which focuses on healing early maladaptive schemas and meeting core developmental needs, is well-positioned to treat the complex emotional, behavioral, and relational patterns that drive addiction. Through the application of ST, patients are empowered to move beyond maladaptive coping strategies and achieve long-term recovery.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, STAT: Schema Therapy for Addiction Treatment a Proposal for the Integrative Treatment of Addictive Disorders created by Elizabeth Lacy et al in 2024.
