About the Course

This course examines the synthesis of theories of change in school-based interventions to prevent substance use and violence by integrating health and academic education. It includes: some key considerations of synthesizing theory, mechanisms of change improving health by eroding boundaries, eroding boundaries between health and academic education, eroding boundaries between classroom and the wider school, eroding boundaries between schools and families, and additional mechanisms to reduce substance use.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, A Systematic Review and Synthesis of Theories of Change of School-based Interventions Integrating Health and Academic Education As a Novel Means of Preventing Violence and Substance Use Among Students created by Tara Tancred et al in 2018.
