About the Course

This course examines a comparison of urban and reservation approaches for culturally responsive opioid and other drug prevention for American Indians and Alaska Natives. It includes: State of Prevention Science with AI/AN Populations, Discuss AI/AN Needs in Rural Reservation and Urban Settings, HEAL Prevention Initiative, Comparison of Reservation‐ and Urban‐Based Approaches, Integration of Indigenous and Academic Perspectives to Respond to Community Needs, Implementation Within Complex Cultural Context: Rural Reservation vs Urban Settings, and tribal and elder Oversight.

Kelli A. Komro, M.P.H, Ph.D. (Epidemiology)

Dr. Komro is professor at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Professor Komro is a social and behavioral epidemiologist focused on promoting child and adolescent health and reducing health disparities driven by social and economic inequities. She has more than 100 articles published in peer reviewed journals and has prsented at more than 50 conferences.

Elizabeth J. D‘Amico, Ph.D.

Dr. D‘Amico is a researcher at RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, CA and an adjunct professor at UCLA. She is nationally recognized for her work developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions for adolescents. Her work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.

L.A. Rankin

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
