About the Course

This course examines and teaches media literacy. It includes: how to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and act using all forms of communication; media literacy education core principles; motivated reasoning; cognitive load, what can cause costly mistakes, Media Literacy Theory of Change; and how to recognize misinformation.

This course is based on the recorded webinar, Media Literacy As a Practical and Transferrable Skill created by Northwest PTTC in 2023.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
