Trajectories of Prescription Opioid Dose and Risk of Opioid-related Adverse Events Among Older Medicare Beneficiaries in the United States: A Nested Case–control Study

About the Course

This study aims to compare trajectories of prescribed opioid doses in six months preceding an incident of opioid related adverse events (ORAE), for cases and for a matched control group of older patients with chronic noncancer pain (CNCP). At issue in this study is an improved understanding of patterns of prescription opioid misuse, dependance, and poisoning among patients age 65 and older.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Trajectories of Prescription Opioid Dose and Risk of Opioid-related Adverse Events Among Older Medicare Beneficiaries in the United States: A Nested Case–control Study created by Yu-Jung Jenny Wei et al. in 2022.
