About the Course

This course, based on the updated and revised second edition of the workbook by Rebecca E. Williams, Ph.D. and Julie S. Kraft, LMFT, presents a comprehensive approach to working with clients in recovery from addictive behaviors. This course is unique in that it addresses the underlying loss that clients have experienced that may fuel addictive behaviors. Counseling skills from the field of mindfulness therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy are outlined in a clear and easy-to-implement style. Healthy strategies to identify and cope with depression, anxiety, anger, and grief are provided along with ways to improve interpersonal relationships.

Rebecca E. Williams, Ph.D.

Rebecca E. Williams, Ph.D. is an award-winning author, psychologist, and wellness expert specializing in healthy recovery from mental illness, addiction, and life’s challenges. For the past 25 years, her work has focused on building resilience and embracing emotional well-being. She has been a program director at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and an associate clinical professor at The University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Rebecca has collaborated for over ten years with marriage and family therapist, Julie Kraft. Their books are used in virtual counseling, group therapy, and addiction recovery centers across the country. The Mindfulness Workbook for Addiction has been translated into Korean, Japanese, and Hungarian. Rebecca and Julie created The Gift of Recovery: 52 Mindful Ways to Live Joyfully Beyond Addiction which is a pocket coach offering lots of in-the-moment mindfulness skills and adds powerful daily affirmations as clients continue on their personal healing journeys.

Julie S. Kraft, M.A., LMFT

Julie S. Kraft, M.A., LMFT is an award-winning author and a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in recovery from addiction, anxiety, depression, and challenging relationships. She was adjunct professor at the University of San Diego's School of Leadership and Education Sciences until relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2018. Julie is coauthor of The Gift of Recovery: 52 Mindful Ways to Live Joyfully Beyond Addiction. She has spoken at several addiction conferences and is a frequent guest on podcasts, but her greatest joy is treating clients in her private practice and seeing them find deeper levels of peace, joy and fulfillment.
