An Integrated Psychodynamic Treatment Model for Suicidal Patients

About the Course

The Boston Suicide Study Group presents a theoretical and clinical approach to treatment of suicidal patients, often considered among the most challenging patient groups. While fundamentally a psychodynamic treatment grounded in the patient’s internal experience, this integrative model also incorporates elements of research in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT), Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), and developmental and social psychology. Ten specific considerations are explored, from crisis management to narrative identity to attention to the therapeutic alliance.

This course is based on the article, Psychotherapy with Suicidal Patients: The Integrative Psychodynamic Approach of the Boston Suicide Study Group created by Mark Schechter, MD et al. in 2019.
