About the Course

This course examines the universal implementation of SBIRT for adolescent alcohol and/or drug users in a school setting. It includes: community partners and school recruitment, screener selection, training and quality assurance, informed consent, scheduling SBIRT in schools, screening protocol, referral to treatment, and problematic substance use.

Julie Maslowsky, PhD

Dr. Julie Maslowsky is a developmental psychologist and population health scientist studying adolescent health risk behavior, particularly sexual health behaviors and substance use. She is currently Assistant Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education and Assistant Professor of Population Health at the University of Texas at Austin. Her work combines theory and methods of Developmental Psychology and Population Health to identify the origins and consequences of adolescent health risk behavior and develop prevention and intervention programs to reduce its negative consequences and promote health and equity in adolescence. She has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.

D. Paul Moberg

D. Paul Moberg, PhD, is a Research Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences in the University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine and Public Health and a Senior Scientist with the Evaluation Research Group within the UW Population Health Institute. He has been involved in evaluation research for over 40 years and his substantive research and publications have focused on health promotion, prevention and intervention programs for children and adolescents; substance abuse treatment; maternal and child health; school health and geriatric services.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
