This course examines how the opioid crisis is impacting the Hispanic/Latino population. It includes: contextual issues related to opioid misuse and OUD in Hispanic/Latino communities, highlights of the national data, pain management, sociocultural factors associated with accessing services, strategies to address opioid misuse and OUD in Hispanic/Latino Communities, standard treatment, and community-informed strategies to address opioid misuse and OUD in Hispanic/Latino communities.

Victoria B. Chou is a faculty member in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH). She collaborates with diverse organizations including UN agencies, USAID, and academic partners to conduct analyses using modeling approaches to guide evaluation and program planning. Her work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.

She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
