This course is a review of pharmacotherapy and medication literature for adolescents. It examines pharmacologic treatments (MAT) for adolescent substance use. It addresses pharmacological intervention research, Ecological Momentary Assessment, current status of the field, summary of reviewed studies, emerging conceptual framework for precision medicine in addictions treatment, and leveraging technology to advance the field. It includes studies of substance use in both human laboratory and animal laboratory.
This course is based on the article, Emerging Pharmacologic Treatments for Adolescent Substance Use-Challenges and New Directions created by Robert Miranda Jr. et al in 2016.

Dr. Miranda is a Professor of Psychiatry & Human Behavior. He has committed his career as a clinician scientist to advancing our understanding of how addiction develops and progresses during adolescence, with the ultimate goal of advancing clinical practice. He has published more than 50 articles in peer reviewed journals and has also published multiple book chapters.
Hayley Treloar
Dr. Treloar Padovano is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and Behavioral and Social Sciences. She is a clinical psychologist who seeks to understand factors underlying the progression from initial alcohol and other drug use to problem use to Substance Use Disorder. She has published more than 40 articles in peer reviewed journals.
