About the Course

This course examines a systems engineering survey and interview tool for use in prevention programs for drug abuse and HIV sexual risk behavior, using implementation science, systems engineering and behavioral interventions. Ten programs were examined including programs goals, significant impact, stage of life, implementation research and practice, implementation agent(s) and setting. Implementations strategies and challenges are also discussed.

Sara J. Czaja

Sara J. Czaja is a Leonard M. Miller Professor of the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and a Professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Miami. Dr. Czaja is very well published in the field of aging and has written numerous book chapters and scientific articles.

Thomas W. Valente

Thomas W. Valente, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Institute for Prevention Research, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. Valente uses social network analysis, health communication, and mathematical models to implement and evaluate health promotion programs designed to prevent tobacco and substance abuse, unintended fertility, and STD/HIV infections. He has published more than 150 articles and chapters.

Sankaran N. Nair

Sankaran Nair was the Director of Research Data at the University of Miami and has published more than 20 articles in peer reviewed journals.

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
