This is a research intensive course that examines women with alcohol dependence and whether couple therapy vs couple therapy with individual CBT shows better alcohol treatment outcomes. Previous studied were examined and compared to current outcomes. Participants were evaluated at baseline using alcohol measures, relationship measures and psychopathology measures. Characteristics included were: Percent Drinking Days Baseline, Percent Heavy Drinking Days Baseline and Mean drinks per drink day Baseline vs during and after treatment.

Barbara S. McCrady, Ph.D.
Dr. McCrady is a professor at the University of New Mexico where she primarily researches conjoint therapy, other approaches that involve the social network, cognitive behavioral therapy, mutual help groups, and therapies for women. She has multiple articles published in peer reviewed journals.
Elizabeth E. Epstein, Ph.D.
Dr. Epstein is Professor of Psychiatry, Addictions Division, University of Massachusetts Medical School, and Professor Emerita, Center of Alcohol Studies, Rutgers University. She has taught, published and lectured widely on treatment of substance use disorders and CBT treatment of psychopathology. Her current research focuses on development of MET/CBT for women with alcohol use disorders, understanding mechanisms of change in cognitive behavioral therapy for alcohol use disorder, and adaptation of alcohol behavioral couple/family therapy for service members and Veterans.
Kevin A. Hallgren, Ph.D.
Dr. Hallgren is a clinical psychologist with research interests in the treatment of problematic alcohol use, drug use, and co-occurring mental health conditions. He is a professor at the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. In the last five years, he has published 38 articles in peer reviewed journals.
Sandi Cardaman has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for more than 15 years. She has worked with eating disorders, domestic violence and clients who are working with the dependency system.
