This course analyzes the construct and explanatory theories of depression and offers a succinct overview of the main evaluation instruments used to measure this disorder in children and adolescents, as well as the prevention programs developed for the school environment and the different types of clinical treatment provided.

Elena Bernaras

Elena Bernaras Iturrioz is Professor of the University of the Department of Evolutionary and Educational Psychology at the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU). She has participated in 16 research projects funded in official national calls. Her lines of research are related to Depressive Symptomatology in Children and Adolescents, Special Education and Psychosocial Needs and Risk Factors in students of Higher Education. She has also directed a Teaching Innovation Project and has published 20 scientific articles, 9 complete books, 10 book chapters and 14 other publications.

Maite Garaigordobil

Maite Garaigordobil is a Doctor of Psychology, Specialist in Clinical Psychology, and Professor of Psychological Evaluation and Diagnosis at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of the Basque Country. His teaching and research activity revolves around issues related to psychological intervention in clinical and educational contexts, as well as the development of psychological assessment instruments for children, adolescents and adults. She is the author of 29 books, 60 chapters and 160 research articles published in journals of recognized national and international prestige. She has been awarded the First National Prize for Educational Research in 1994 and 2003 awarded by the Ministry of Education, and in 2012 with the Nicolás Seisdedos Prize for the best research work in Psychological Evaluation, which PSICOFUNDACIÓN (General Council of Official Colleges of Psychologists)

She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
