As the average length of therapy shortens, clinicians need a resource to lead them step-by-step through the goals and process of the opening sessions of brief therapy as well as clear treatment maps for the most common presenting problems. This resource helps clinicians do just that and more, including doing a quick assessment and isolating and addressing the underlying emotional wounds that prevent families and couples from solving problems on their own. Readers will not only learn how to “think brief,” they will also discover how to navigate the session process in an interactive and action-oriented way, even with clients who are in high-pressure, crisis situations.

Robert Taibbi. LCSW has been practicing for more than 40 years and has primarily worked with couples and families in community mental health settings. His work is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy and system theory. He has published 11 books and more than 300 magazine and journal articles.

David Lutkemeier holds a BA degree in psychology, a master’s degree in developmental psychology, and a doctorate degree from the University of Cincinnati in Special Education and Psychology. He is certified as a psychologist by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners, as well as holding public school superintendent certification in Arizona and California. Dr. Lutkemeier has worked as an assistant professor at Arizona State University, a school psychologist, special education director, assistant superintendent, and superintendent in both Arizona and California. David, working as a consultant with a national curriculum management group (CMSi) has completed over two dozen comprehensive district-wide curriculum audits in 15 states over the past 20 years and has worked as a test developer for CE Learning Systems for the past ten years.
