About the Course

This course examines physical detoxification services for withdrawal from specific substances. It includes: psychosocial and biomedical screening and assessment, alcohol intoxication and withdrawal, opioids, benzodiazepines and other sedative-hypnotics, stimulants inhalants/solvents nicotine, marijuana and other drugs containing THC, anabolic steroids and club drugs, management of polydrug abuse-an integrated approach, alternative approaches, and considerations for specific populations.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Acknowledge that alcohol withdrawal is the most dangerous and life-threatening withdrawal syndrome.
  2. Identify the effective treatments of each withdrawal syndrome.
  3. Summarize the issues to consider in the treatment of subgroups, including pregnant women.
