This course examines enhancing motivation and addressing the content of sessions 1 and 2. It includes: key concepts of motivational interviewing skills, characteristics of the States of Change Model, using motivational interviewing strategies, recognizing and addressing resistance, identifying discrepancy, motivational interviewing and skills training, reviewing the PFR, addressing the client’s readiness to proceed, summarize the PFR review, assist the client in preparing for change, helping the client identify specific change strategies, welcoming the supporter, examining the client’s recent experiences, examine client’s experience with supportive and unsupportive relationships, discuss ambivalence, and establish a change plan.
