About the Course

This course examines suicide in the veteran populations. It covers accuracy of interventions, the effectiveness of suicide prevention interventions and current evidence gaps in research on suicide prevention in Veterans and military personnel. It includes: new VHA suicide prevention initiatives and standard approaches, a meta-analysis of numerous studies, literature flow, literature overview, population-level interventions, individual-level interventions, methods to identify risk, healthcare service interventions for suicide prevention, summary, discussion and conclusion.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Evidence Brief: Suicide Prevention in Veterans created by Kim Peterson, MS, Johanna Anderson, MPH, et al. in 2018.

Dr. Mosco’s clinical interests include maternal mental health, older adults, and third wave cognitive behavioral therapies.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  2. Summarize the efficacy/effectiveness and adverse effects of suicide prevention interventions in reducing rates of suicide and other suicidal self-directed violence in Veterans and military personnel.
  3. Identify important areas of ongoing research and current evidence gaps in research on suicide prevention in Veterans and military personnel, and how could they be addressed by future research
