About the Course

This chapter describes the neurobiological framework underlying substance abuse and why clients transition from using or misusing to a substance use disorder. It also explains how these substances produce changes in brain structure and function that promote and sustain addiction, contributing to relapse

This course is based on Chapter 2 of Facing Addiction in America created by US Dept of Health and Human Services, Office of the Surgeon General and SAMHSA in 2016.

She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
