About the Course

Substance misuse is one of the critical public health problems of our time. The most recent data on substance use, misuse, and substance use disorders reveal that the problem is deepening and the consequences are becoming more deadly than ever. This chapter offers a comprehensive overview of substance abuse, its causes, contributing factors, use and misuse, diagnosis, treatment, and policy.

This course is based on Chapter 1 of Facing Addiction in America created by US Dept of Health and Human Services, Office of the Surgeon General and SAMHSA in 2016.

She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
