About the Course:

In this educational presentation, Sue Picket Ph.D. and Peggy Swarbrick Ph.D. define health literacy and its influence on physical and behavioral health. Tips on how to assess for and improve health literacy are shared. Recovery to Practice (RTP) training helps behavioral health and general healthcare practitioners improve delivery of recovery-oriented services, supports, and treatment.

Sue Pickett, Ph.D. is the Deputy Director at the Center for Research & Evaluation Advocates for Human Potential, Inc.

Peggy Swarbrick, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at Rutgers University.

  2. Identify the reasons why health literacy is important in regards to recovery-oriented, integrated care, and discuss reasons for and effects of low health literacy.

  3. Discuss practical strategies to improve health literacy.
