Timothy J. O'Farrell, PhD, ABPP

Timothy J. O’Farrell, PhD, ABPP is Professor of Psychology in the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry at the VA Boston Healthcare System in Brockton, MA where he directs the Families and Addiction Program and the Counseling for Alcoholics’ Marriages (CALM) Project.

Gary R. Birchler, Ph.D.

Dr. Birchler received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1972 from the University of Oregon, Eugene, and completed an internship in Clinical Psychology at the Palo Alto V. A. Medical Center the same year. He joined the University of California at San Diego Department of Psychiatry in August 1972. Currently, he is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UCSD School of Medicine; Adjunct Professor, San Diego State University and Adjunct Professor, University of San Diego. He serves as Co-Director of the UCSD/VA Psychology Internship Program, and Director, Family Mental Health Program, VA San Diego Healthcare System.

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about the behavior of adult couples with substance abuse problems, related research findings, and behavioral intervention strategies. It is appropriate for introductory, intermediate, and advanced-level participants’ knowledge.
