About the Course

Treatment Modalities and Settings (TIP 56, Chapter 5): Addressing the Specific Behavioral Health Needs of Men describes some treatment methods that researchers and providers have found useful in helping men recover from substance use disorders. It covers men’s treatment needs in the context of different modalities and settings as well as some of the specific types of services that may be used by programs treating men. Chapter 5 covers family interventions that help men enter treatment and presents information on some common treatment strategies and how they may be adapted for use with a specifically male clientele. Men often relapse for different reasons than women; relapse prevention techniques may need to take those differences into account. Men’s participation in mutual-help groups is also considered.
