Adapting Intensive Outpatient Treatment for Specific Populations (TIP 47, Chapter 9): Substance Abuse: Clinical Issues in Intensive Outpatient Treatment highlights the flexibility and adaptability of the intensive outpatient treatment (IOT) model to meet the diverse needs of specific populations: those involved with the criminal justice system, women, individuals with co-occurring disorders, adolescents, and young adults. This chapter provides a demographic overview of each group and discusses implications for IOT programming as well as clinical issues and strategies to use with each population.

  3. Address the description of the adolescent and young adult population. Know the difference between developmental changes and the development of substance abuse in adolescents.
