Physical Detoxification Services for Withdrawal From Specific Substances (TIP 45, Chapter 4): Detoxification and Substance Abuse Treatment highlights specific treatment regimens for multiple classifications of substance abuse, which include physical detoxification for withdrawal from alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines and other sedative hypnotics, stimulants, inhalants/solvents, nicotine, marijuana and other drugs containing THC, anabolic steroids, and an integrated approach for management of polydrug abuse. In addition, this chapter provides guidance on the medical, nursing, and social services aspects of these treatments. Considerations for specific populations is also explored.
