About the Course

This course is based on three components of the Cannabis Youth Treatment Series, Volume 2: Section I – Introduction and Background; Section II – The CBT7 Approach to Cannabis Treatment; and Section III – Overview of Treatment Session Components. The Treatment Series is a supplement to Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Adolescent Cannabis Users.
It presents a seven-session cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT7) approach designed especially for adolescent cannabis users.

Introduction and Background (Section I) introduces the treatment model and the manual. It gives client and provider information and discusses the target population and staffing recommendations. It also addresses the scope and significance of the cannabis problem.

The CBT7 Approach to Cannabis Treatment (Section II) discusses the CBT7 Approach to Cannabis Treatment. It presents the evolution and purpose of the protocol and discusses previous applications of cognitive behavioral treatment. It describes treatment goals, objectives, and theoretical assumptions.

Overview of Treatment Session Components (Section III) is an overview of treatment session components. It discusses elements such as client status review, skill guidelines, group exercises, and modeling, It also addresses session and time management.

  2. Describe the CBT7 approach to cannabis treatment, including the purpose of the protocol, treatment goals and objectives, and tailoring the treatment to the client.
  3. Identify and explain CBT7 treatment session components.
