About the Course:

The Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) regards its Code of Ethical Conduct and ethics process as the single greatest consumer protection measure within the credentialing process. PCB is dedicated to the principle that individuals in the substance use field must conform their behavior to the highest standards of ethical practice. This course covers the PCB Code of Ethical Conduct which is applied to all professionals certified by or seeking certification from PCB. It addresses rules of conduct, disciplinary procedures, and frequently asked questions.

This course is based on the reading-based online, Pennsylvania Certification Board Code of Ethical Conduct created by in 2016.

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially addiction counselors, psychologists, mental health counselors, and social workers who seek knowledge about the Pennsylvania Certification Board’s code of ethical conduct. It is appropriate for all levels of participants’ knowledge.

Course Objectives:

  1. Describe expected rules of conduct for substance abuse treatment professionals, including those related to fraud, exploitation, safety,
    and record-keeping.

  2. Discuss disciplinary procedures, including confidentiality, possible sanctions, investigation, hearing and appeal processes, and procedures following disciplinary action.

  3. Identify and respond to frequently asked ethics-related questions, including those regarding procedures related to filing an ethics complaint.
