About the Course:
Cocaine abuse and addiction continues to be a problem that plagues our nation. However, we now know more about where and how cocaine acts in the brain, including how the drug produces its pleasurable effects and why it is so addictive.
The purpose of this course is to present information that the National Institute on Drug Abuse has accumulated from years of scientific research in order to better help understand cocaine abuse and addiction. The course presents information on what cocaine and crack are, how they work in the brain, short and long-term effects of abuse, and effective treatment interventions. Sources of additional relevant information are also included.
This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially addiction counselors, psychologists, mental health counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about cocaine abuse and addiction, as well as treatments available for cocaine abuse and addiction. It is appropriate for all levels of participants’ knowledge.
