About the Course

Anxiety is an often misunderstood disorder that plagues thousands of people, including teenagers. The prevalence of anxiety disorders has spurred the search for both pharmacological and behavioral ways of treatment. Phobias and panic and anxiety disorders involve a malfunction in body systems that control fear. In many cases, these imbalances can be treated with drugs that appear to target fear systems. This book explores the various anxiety drugs available on the market and how they help treat this common disorder.

Donna Toufexis

Donna Toufexis completed her doctoral training in neuroendocrinology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and postdoctoral training at Concordia University in Montreal. She is presently a research associate at the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience at Emory University in Atlanta. Her primary research interest is the characterization of brain mechanisms that govern fear and anxiety.

Sayamwong Hammack

Sayamwong Hammack earned his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado studying how the serotonin system is altered in the learned helplessness model, which produces an anxiety-like state. He continues to research serotonin influences on anxiety in his current position as a postdoctoral fellow at Emory University.

David J. Triggle (editor)

David J. Triggle is a University professor and a Distinguished Professor in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
