The Minnesota Certification Board (MCB) is a non-profit agency dedicated to protecting the citizens of Minnesota by ensuring that certified professionals working in a wide range of professions are providing safe and competent services to the public.

INITIAL:
Must have a Master's Degree in behavioral science with a clinical application from a regionally accredited college or university within the United States or colleges and universities outside the United States.
180 hours of alcohol and drug counselor-specific education
- 6 hours must be specific to counselor ethics
- 90 hours must be education related to the co-occurrence of substance use disorders with other related disorders and their interaction

Must currently hold and maintain ADCR-MN, CCJPR, CCDP, or CCDPD or hold a specialty substance abuse credential in another professional discipline in the human services field at a Master’s level or higher for both initial certification and recertification.

Education must include information on the principals and the characteristics of substance use and opioid use disorder, evidence-based approaches to their treatment, and understanding of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and the potential for rejection of MAT as part of treatment by some cultural communities.

INITIAL:
Must have current certification (e.g., CPRSR, ADCR-MN, AADCR-MN) or licensure (e.g., LADC, LPCC, LICSW) in a behavioral health field in the state of Minnesota. The credential must be maintained in good standing for the duration of approval as a supervisor.
3 hours of education (e.g., training, workshop) that covers each of the following topics: the MCB Peer Recovery Specialist Code of Ethical Conduct; the IC&RC Peer Recovery domains; relevant statutes, rules, and standards relevant to the provision of peer recovery services in Minnesota; and supervision concepts pertinent to peer recovery.
