Our distant learning courses are available for continuing education credit for addiction counselors, as set forth by the Louisiana State Board of Certification for Substance Abuse Counselors.
Substance abuse/Addiction Specific education hours are defined as only those hours obtained from courses/workshops/seminars that have the actual words “substance abuse” “addiction” “drug abuse” in the title of the course.
Applicants for addiction counselor certification may substitute up to 300 hours of AEP education for up to 18 semester hours of college credit in substance abuse counseling courses.
Applicants for compulsive gambling counselor certification are required to have 30 hours of AEP education in compulsive gambling.
Applicants for prevention specialist certification must have 100 hours of AEP education.
Applicants for counselor in training certification must have 180 hours of AEP education.
Louisiana also accepts up to 270 hours of distance learning for initial certification hours.
Addiction Counselor CE is a service of CE Learning Systems LLC. CE Learning Systems is approved to offer continuing educations courses by ADRA (AEP # E012), NAADAC and many ICRC certification boards. CE Learning Systems LLC maintains responsibility for the courses.

Any person who has not yet met the qualification to become a licensed, certified or registered counselor, but who has made application to the board in accordance with the provisions of this Chapter and procedures established by the board. 180 credits must be addiction specific.
